This month's jewel is is big, bold and truly uncommon. A real conversation piece. Hand sawed sterling silver sheet is made into these graceful, fiery/watery forms which, when I first drew them as a simple doodle on a page about nine years ago, struck me with their design possibilities. They are set with tiny, luscious garnet cabochons and damn-near-perfect Sleeping Beauty turquoise.
Turquoise: Can bring any and all energies to a higher level. Enhances communication with the physical and spiritual worlds. Unites Earth and Sky and is very empathic and balancing. Also enhances trust, kindness, intuitive/psychic attunement to each other, stimulates romantic love.
Garnet: inspires deep love and devotion, passion or serenity as appropriate.

Once upon a time on the cold eastern coast of Canada, an Inuit warrior out hunting made an extraordinary discovery: the Northern Lights, trapped within a stone. He freed them with a mighty blow of his spear and what was left in the stone is now known as Labradorite.
While this stone was supposedly "discovered" by the Moravian missionaries in Labrador and Newfoundland, the Inuit and Innu had been using the mineral for many years in a powdered form for their own ailments. They dubbed it "fire rock" or "fire stone" because of its appearance. Labradorite is truly a stunning stone to behold. If you tilt it just the right way it lights up with a blue/green/gold color display known as "labradoressence", the result of the lamellar inter growths inside the crystal. On the Mohs hardness scale labradorite is a 6.
Spectrolite is considered to be the gem quality version of labradorite. One of my favorite stones, truly mesmerizing to gaze upon. A very mystical stone, it enhances the connection between the physical and nonphysical realms. Also will turn away unwanted energies from the aura. This is a stone of esoteric knowledge. Stimulates intuition and psychic gifts. Facilitates the understanding of messages from the unconscious mind as it brings them to the surface of consciousness.
And that, my friends, is labradorite; until next time, have fun on your own learning forays into minerals and crystals!
