This month's jewel is is big, bold and truly uncommon. A real conversation piece. Hand sawed sterling silver sheet is made into these graceful, fiery/watery forms which, when I first drew them as a simple doodle on a page about nine years ago, struck me with their design possibilities. They are set with tiny, luscious garnet cabochons and damn-near-perfect Sleeping Beauty turquoise.
Turquoise: Can bring any and all energies to a higher level. Enhances communication with the physical and spiritual worlds. Unites Earth and Sky and is very empathic and balancing. Also enhances trust, kindness, intuitive/psychic attunement to each other, stimulates romantic love.
Garnet: inspires deep love and devotion, passion or serenity as appropriate.

Do you ever receive a deeply meaningful gift in your dreams? Is there a message contained in the gift? Ah well, in a dream I just recently had (I think it was right around my birthday too!) an old friend gifted me with the most delicate and beautiful tiny pair of garnet, gold and silver earrings. They were so vivid in the dream that when I woke, I was able to remember all the details of them, so I sketched them out and even found that exact type of natural garnet crystals and purchased them online. They are in the above picture; the 8 dark red ones. The orangey ones on the left are Hessonite garnet crystals and I couldn't resist them so I just bought the whole lot. Aren't they adorable? They look like little cherry candies! These crystals are quite small, not more than 6mm in size.
There is a common misconception that all garnets are red, however this is untrue. They can appear in a wide variety of colors including red, purple, green, orange, yellow, black or colorless. The green variety (Demantoid) is very prized and is a member of the andradite group. On the Mohs hardness scale garnets are a 7 with a trigonal crystal structure.
So what does garnet signify? After checking my favorite online stone sites I found many things, just a few of which are: it is a stone of romantic love, passion and protection. It can generate self-confidence and success in one's chosen profession. It will bring constancy to friendships and is associated in healing with the thyroid and spleen. Garnet is connected to the 1st, or root chakra, which is focused upon shelter, sustenance, security, earth connection, survival and grounding. It can also assist in connection to the kundalini energy we all have-the energy of transformation.
I had to dig some more. What does receiving a gift of earrings signify in a dream? One meaning I found online is that someone is in love with you or wants to be your friend. Another interpretation states that earrings denote a channeling ability in which you can communicate with spirits. Another said that earrings symbolize good news and interesting work ahead. All in all, quite fascinating stuff, and so much of what I read about garnet struck a deep personal chord relating to the dream that I was moved to re-create the "dream earrings".
As of this writing, they are still under construction. I'm working on them in my spare time, one pair for me and some for you if you like! Sign up for the newsletter in the box to the right to be notified when they're ready!
